Okay, so I wrote a manifesto. I publicly stated my core values and beliefs, and I had determined that I want to be an influential and respected figure in the fitness industry. Next, it became a matter of doing! As Gary V. says, “Ideas are shit, execution is the game.” It was time to answer the What, How, and Where: What am I going to talk about? How am I going to communicate? Where is the market?
What am I Going to Talk About:
I am going to provide valuable content regarding strength and conditioning, sport performance, health and fitness, and CrossFit
How am I Going to Communicate:
I am going to communicate through multiple mediums including: blogs, podcasts, and video
Where is the Market:
The market is scattered across the country. Highly dense areas include: California, Texas, the Midwest, and the Southeast. The White Space in the market for strength and conditioning, health and fitness, and sport performance is Instagram, whereas the White Space for CrossFit is on Snapchat.
In addition to answering the What, How, and Where, I needed to accomplish the following:
1. Cultivate an environment around myself where people felt comfortable telling me the truth (e.g., What are my strengths? What are my weaknesses?)
2. Determine my strengths and utilize those skills to generate valuable content
3. Take social media seriously (“Social media is not just a vehicle for content distribution. It’s a native place to story tell.” — Gary Vaynerchuk)
By completing the tasks listed above, I began to generate a following. To ensure that this following continued to grow, it was crucial that I continued to provide value in every piece of content that I created. The goal was to love the community, to give them so much that they felt obligated to spread the word.
